Cricket

Our cricket club takes place each week after school (3.00-5.00 pm) during the year. The School team plays in a range of different tournaments involving softball and hardball competitions. The team is open to Year 5 and 6 only, because of popular numbers. During season 1998 the team reached the Sussex Finals of the Seeboard Hardball competition which was played at the County Ground, Hove, and they also played at the County Grounds situated at Arundel Castle and Horsham CC. During the 1999 season, the team reached three County Finals (runners-up twice) and a South East England Regional Final finishing in 3rd position overall out of eight competing schools from London, Surrey, Kent and Sussex. In 2001, our team reached the finals of the Arundel Castle Tournament. In total, these have been excellent achievements over the past few years, building up a fine reputation for cricket at Lindfield.

In 2007, our team won the Arundel Castle 6-a-side Tournament beating Summerlea School by 21 runs in the final. During the same season the team also reached the County Finals of the Caffyns 11-a-side competition where we finished third beating Thomas A'Beckett School in the 3rd/4th play-offs. These were outstanding achievements at County level.

In 2008, our girls' team won the 8 a side Mid-Sussez Primary Schools tournament and went on to finish 3rd out of 16 competing schools at the Sussex County Finals day at the Sussex Academy ground.

A mixed boys' and girls' team for the second year in succession reached the County final of the Arundel Castle 6-a-side tournament but this year finished as runners-up.

Our boys' team reached the County final of the 8-a-side hardball cricket tournament at Horsham CC but lost to Harlands School to finish as runners-up. However in the Caffyn's Sussex 11-a-side competition our boys' team beat Birchwood Grove, Harlands and The Vale schools to reach the County final where they defeated Thomas A' Beckett School to become County champions at Horsham CC for the first time in the competition's 30 year history. This was a very special achievement for our school and capped a highly successful season for our teams.

In 2009, our boys' team again reached the County final of the 8-a-side hardball cricket tournament at Horsham CC beating Greenway School in the final to become Sussex Champions (link to feature in The Argus). Later in the season our girls team finished in 3rd place out of 16 teams in the KWICK crioket County finals, whilst our boys team became County Champions in their KWICK cricket competition (see photo below). Our boys' team also went on to win the 11 a-side Sussex Primary Schools' competition for the second year running (see photo below) to complete a hatrick of wins this season. It was a fantastic achievment for our teams.

A number of our pupils practise and play for local clubs too, including Lindfield CC, Cuckfield CC, Scaynes Hill CC, Ardingly CC and Haywards Heath CC.

During the year children from Years 4 to 6 inclusive will be invited to attend a series of coaching sessions organised by Sussex CCC (see details below) on a weekly basis at a cost of £2.00 per session. This scheme operates for both Years 5 and 6 during the Autumn and Spring Terms and Years 4 and 5 during the Summer Term. During the Summer Term Year 6 work with Mr White in before and after school sessions. Contact Mr. White for further details about cricket at the School.

Football

Football club meets every week between 3:00 - 4:00 pm during the Autumn and Spring Terms. It is open to boys and girls from Years 5 and 6 and meets on a Wednesday.  No cost is made to pupils.

Further coacing sessions are available through our FA Charter link with Lindfield Juniors Football Club for children in years 1-4 on a Tuesday and Thursday each week throughout the year. A small charge is made for these sessions.

The School plays competitive 7-a-side matches against schools in the Mid-Sussex area. Mr. White also organises an annual 5-a-side PTA Friday Club tournament for all pupils in Years 3-6. The tournament is held in July.

During seasons 1998/99 and 2001/02, our school team became the Mid-Sussex Primary School Champions at a tournament held in Burgess Hill during November. During season 1999/2000, the team finished in joint 3rd place in the Mid-Sussex Primary School tournament and reached the semi-finals of the Haywards Heath tournament held in April. Our team won the Haywards Heath Schools' Tournament in season 2000/01.

In season 2002/03 the team reached the final stages of the Mid-Sussex Tournament missing out on a third final in four years by one point. In season 2003-04, our squad reached the semi-final stages of both the Mid-Sussex and Haywards Heath tournaments and won (trophy shared with Blackthorns) the Haywards Heath tournament in the 2004-05 season (see report below). We won the tournament outright in the 2005-06 season (report below).

In the 2006-07 season our boys and girls teams reached the semi-final stages of the Mid-Sussex Primary Schools tournament. In the Haywards Heath tournaments the girls team reached the semi-final whilst the boys finished runners-up to Northlands Wood.

During the 2008/09 season, our boys' team became Haywards Heath Primary Schools champions for the third time in the past five years, reaching the semi-final stages of the Mid-Sussex Schools tournament. Our girls won the Mid-Sussex Primary Schools tournament and went on to become runners-up at the County Finals day involving 8 competing teams. These achievements refelect the high standard our footballers reach and maintain each season.

In 2009 our girls team finished as runners-up in the MiSussexd- Primary Schools tournament (see photo below).

A number of our players are associated with local clubs including Lindfield Juniors F.C. and Cuckfield Cosmos who train and play on a regular basis. Some Lindfield players have also gone on to represent the Mid-Sussex Primary Schools' team through being nominated by the school.

Please contact Mr. White for further details on all aspects of football at the school.

Season 2005-06 Report

Champions of Haywards Heath!

Following an afternoon of exciting and closely fought matches, our boys’ team won the Haywards Heath Primary Schools 7-a-side Football Tournament on 14th March, beating St Wilfrid's in the final. On the way to the final Lindfield beat Heyworth and Blackthorns in the group phase and Harlands in the semi-finals. Last season, Lindfield shared the trophy with Blackthorns School and so our boys were delighted to be outright champions for this season. The boys who represented the school at the tournament were: Josh Ayres, Harrison Blake, Finlay Wheeler, Michael Wilkie, Richard Ayton, Ashley Haycock, James Whybrow, Harry Elson and Seb Masters. A photograph and article will feature in the Mid-Sussex Times and The Argus newspapers. Many thanks to the parents who supported our team during the afternoon and well done to our successful boys who played with great skill and sportsmanship.

Season 2004-05 Update

Our school team performed really well in the 2004-05 Sainsbury's Mid-Sussex 7 a side Tournament held on Tuesday 12th October at London Meed School. In their group our team beat London Meed 'B' 1-0, St Wilfrid's Burgess Hill 1-0 and Birchwood Grove 1-0 to top the group with a maximum 9 points. We then progressed to the semi-final group stage (2 groups) of the competition where only one team qualified from each group for the final.  At this stage, we drew 0-0 with London Meed 'A', beat Manor Field 1-0 and lost our final match 0-1 to Harlands when only a draw would have been enough to reach the final. In the final Birchwood Grove, whom we had beat in the first group stage, beat Harlands 1-0. Well done to all of our team for such a fantastic display. The squad featured: William Duncan, Tom Fitzgerald, Jamie Duncan, Mathew Coghlan, Louis Rice, Harvey Blake, Jack Brown and Joe Sissons. Later in the season we reached the final of the Haywards Heath Primary Schools' Tournament where we played a closely fought game against Blackthorns School. Finally after a tense extra time period the scores were still level at 1-1 and it was agreed between the two teams to share the trophy.

Choir

This is organised by Mrs Smith our music subject leader. The club is open to all interested children from years 4,5, and 6 and is held each Wednesday in the William Allen Hall from 3.00 - 3.50 p.m.

Cross Country

The Cross Country club meets once a week before school during the Autumn Term in preparation for the Mid-Sussex Cross Country Championships which are held in early December each year. We have built up a good reputation for cross country over the years and the girls' team have won the overall team event in recent years. In the 2008 Championships our boys team finished in 5th place and the girls team in 6th position out of thirteen competing large primary schools.

During the Spring and Summer Term the club meets before school on Lindfield Common on a weekly basis and trains for the Lindfield Village Fun Run which takes place in May/June. Parents are very welcome to join us during our training sessions. Contact Mr White for further details.

Athletics

We begin athletics during the Summer Term in PE lessons and break/lunch-times.  All year groups work hard towards the Haywards Heath District Sports competition which is held annually at Oathall Community College in July. Our best athletes are selected to compete in a range of events including running, jumping, throwing against all local schools. A trophy is awarded to the winning school. Over the past four years, we have finished in second place twice and third twice.

An athletics club runs throughout the year for key stage 2 children. This is organised by Ms Anscombe our PE coordinator.

There is an opportunity for all pupils to compete in our own School Sports Day for key stage 1 and 2 children each July. Events include the more traditional track activities to novelty and team events. There is even an opportunity for mums, toddlers and dads to race!
